Even where the water lanes are covered by metal grates, if you listen carefully — truly from the bottom of your heart — you can still hear the gentle sound of flowing water beneath. Riding Submarine to Adventure is a participatory art project executed by Sur.layer (Lin Shu-Hao and Chu Hsiao-Chi). This time, the artists collaborate with the children of Xinqi House Kindergarten to explore the water world hidden beneath the water lanes. Through this cooperative project, the children imagine the underwater surroundings and reflect on the ecological and environmental changes in their own community.

Under the “command” of Sur.layer artists Lin Shu-Hao and Captain Chu Hsiao-Chi, the children set off on a submarine adventure. Through their creative work, the artists invite them to imagine what lies beneath the road — and to reflect on environmental hygiene and ecological awareness. Together, the artists and children made a variety of three-dimensional periscope sculptures to guide visitors along the water lanes, as well as L-shaped sculptures scattered throughout the space to bring artistic vitality to the area. Local journalists from southern Taoyuan came to cover the event.

The installation is now complete. In the water lanes of Xinwu — near the back of Xinwu Township Office — 43 periscopes are rising up from the water. The children gave full rein to their imaginations, thinking about the environments above and below the surface: memories of their own homes, things that fascinate and captivate them, all expressed through the images at each periscope lens, while the body of each periscope carries their sculptural creations drawn from within.

水巷上即使被金屬蓋罩住，用心傾聽仍可聽到流水淙淙。在淺表團隊的林書豪與朱筱琪船長的「指揮」下，新奇屋幼兒園小朋友這回要乘著潛水艇，一同探險水巷下的水世界。藝術家期許孩子們透過創作，對道路下的水世界進行想像，反思環境衛生與生態認識。

此外，藝術家和孩子們動手製作各種立體潛水鏡，成為引領人們行走水巷的物件，也製作L型雕塑散佈水巷，活化該空間的藝術性。今天還有南桃園的記者採訪呢！大家加快隨著淺表及新奇屋幼兒園的腳步一同探險去吧！

完成與小朋友們（新奇屋幼兒園）精彩作品的安裝，在新屋水巷裡(近新屋鄉公所後)，有43支潛望鏡正從水裡冒出土來，小孩們發揮想像力，在思考水上與水下的環境，有對自己家的記憶，有令自己著迷的事物，發揮在每個鏡口的圖像上，在鏡身則是由內心對立體物件的創作。
