Hey there! I’m Hsiao-Chi Chu, a cross-disciplinary practitioner with a focus on art, cultural heritage, migration, refugees, and humanitarian development.
I specialise in bridging humanitarian fieldwork and curatorial practice — building platforms, archives, and cross-regional networks that connect displaced communities’ cultural knowledge with the systems that need to hear it.
ARTS, RESEARCH & HUMANITARIAN ADOCACY
(Refugee, Culture & Creative Practice Focus)
2020 – Present | Co-Founder, Refugee Path & Refugee Week Taiwan (RWT)
Co-founding and directing Taiwan’s leading advocacy initiatives, I combined artistic outreach with policy awareness to enhance public discourse on forced displacement. Additionally, I co-curated the 2020 Together—Voices Across Borders exhibition and authored multiple publications on cultural heritage and trauma, utilizing cross-border dialogue to explore contemporary migration issues.
2018.05 – 2018.06 | Artist & Internship, RIWAQ, Palestine
Engaging in site-specific artistic practices for heritage preservation, I explored the geopolitical and ecological displacement of marginalized communities. By utilizing food and seeds as “living archives,” I actively challenged colonial ecological extraction. Furthermore, I contributed to the Life Jacket community project and assisted in curating the 2018 Qalandiya International Biennale.
2015.05 – 2018.02 | Museum Officer & Project Manager, MoNTUE
Managing comprehensive museum operations, I oversaw exhibitions, educational programs, media communications, and publications. I successfully coordinated end-to-end exhibition planning and production, ensuring seamless delivery through precise timeline management, artist liaison, cross-departmental coordination, and rigorous on-site implementation.
2013.09 – 2014.01 | Project Coordinator, Project Playtogether 2013 (Taipei City Urban Regeneration Office)
Coordinating the Project Playtogether 2013 (Link 2)urban regeneration initiative at the historic Lin Family House, I facilitated public engagements and community planning programs. I assisted artists in developing site-specific works and pedagogies centered on local traditions, effectively integrating documentaries and exhibitions to revitalize the heritage space.
2010.07 – 2011.08 | Programmer, Dept. of AIR, Taipei Culture Foundation
Coordinating public engagement and community development initiatives for the Artist-in-Residence (AIR) program, I established dynamic creative hubs. To successfully execute these cultural programs, I selected, trained, and managed a dedicated team of interns and volunteers, ensuring impactful and continuous community outreach.
